These examples were owned by two brothers Private AG Shaw & TW Shaw 4th battalion Canadians-France. Matchbox cover contains the Canadian Maple with the Number ‘4’ in the center and the word “Canada” below the maple insignia. Inscribed on the opposite side is the following: “Private AG Shaw 4th Battalion Canadians-France B.E.F” and “Drocourt-Queant Sept. 2nd 1918” on the spine. The second match box cover contains the maple design similar to the one mention above with a World War 1 air craft and T.W. Shaw below the image. On the spine “Cayeux Woods 8/8/18” is inscribed. This match box appears to have been previously broken and glued back together. The matchbox is accompanied buy a miniature “New Testament” bible and a 14K gold Canada 4th battalion Stickpin (2.54 grams). The stickpins were to identify its wearer by association on the home front during World War I to show their membership in an organization and/or their contribution to a particular war effort. The stickpin comes in the original issuing box.
