At the turn of the century, gleaming rails snaked into Weyburn District, Saskatchewan, bringing settlers and speculators. American investors founded the Weyburn Security Company, then Bank, to deal in land and money. Chartered by 1910, the Bank proceeded to issue three denominations of its own notes. The Bank had influence enough to secure the Weyburn Amendment to Canada’s Bank Act, allowing it to sell insurance for hail damage from prairie tempests. But a new storm broke over the Bank soon enough, as the Depression racked the prairies. In 1931 the sun set on this last bank of western Canada, as it was acquired by the Canadian Imperial Bank, now CIBC. Only 15 $10 notes, and 40 other issues, are known to survive.

This note makes 16; you won’t find it listed in the CPMS Registry as of yet. Outside of private collections, this is among the highest-graded examples available for purchase. A bright, vibrant note with exceptional eye appeal, worth a premium bid!
